The Two Days of Halloween

We all know about the Twelve Days of Christmas. Well, this year the Brothers YZ decided that one day of Halloween was not enough, and for Liam, one Halloween costume was not enough. At the rate that he is growing, we had to try out three available costumes before they were too small.

Our Halloween celebration began last night at Anna Maria College where the students decorate the halls of the dorms in different themes and give trick-0r-treating tours. (Nana spent three years living in this dorm when she was a student at Anna Maria College!) This is a great event and really draws in a crowd. This year's themes included Finding Nemo, Candyland, and Happy Feet. At first, Firefighter Evan was shy with all of the other children and a little frightened of some of the other costumes, but within a short time, he was leading the way down the halls. Liam got overheated in the bear costume that Evan insisted he wear, but he still enjoyed all of the decorations and attention from college girls.

Today Evan had two opportunities for trick-or-treating. At St. Mary's, the preschoolers made masks and goodie bags and went trick-or-treating at the elderly housing complex next to the church. Then, we went trick-0r-treating in the neighborhood which turned out to be the least successful part of the Halloween festivities. The Brothers YZ looked adorable, Evan in his firefighter costume and Liam in a turtle costume, but both were a little tired. Due to our rushed and slightly late start out the door, Evan had trouble keeping up with his usual gang. Later he was rebuffed by the Other Evan who refused Evan's polite offer to hold hands while walking in the street. This slight, of course, resulted in many tears. (I managed to hold back my tears.) Evan did rebound when his firefighter's mask frightened a small dog.

Because I cannot resist, here is a picture of Liam in his third Halloween costume:
Thanks to my colleague, Christine, for the loan of the firefighter costumes. Liam will not have this many costumes next year when I will probably have to buy each of the boys a new costume. Hopefully, e-Bay will pull through for me again.
