This weekend was devoted to one of the most important women in the lives of The Brothers YZ --Nana! In celebration of Nana's 60th birthday, Evan, Liam, their parents, and their aunt and uncle surprised Nana on a what she thought was a romantic overnight with Grampa on Cape Cod. The site of the surprise was Friendly's in Dennisport. The YZ family and Aunt Meg and Uncle Brian managed to arrive about 5 minutes before Grampa and Nana. (Nana was a little puzzled about why Grampa was so insistent on a trip to Friendly's on a cool autumn day but did not have a clue about what was really going on.) And, was Nana ever shocked to see Evan standing in the doorway to give her a ballon with birthday wishes? Fortunately, it was a turned out to be a welcome surprise rather than a disappointing invasion.
The rest of the weekend was packed with lots of family fun. We all stayed at the Corsair and Cross Rip Hotels in Dennisport--a real find for those traveling with children. It was right on the beach where Evan got a chance to fly a kite for the first time and Liam got a chance to eat some sand. We shared the Captain's Suite with Aunt Meg and Uncle Brian, and Evan had great fun using his firefighter's axe to break into their room. We even managed to find some tasty, yet kid-friendly, dining options on a mostly shut-down Cape Cod including dinner at an Irish pub complete with live music. I don't think that the Brothers YZ broke anything in the hotel or restaurants, as the plant that Evan knocked over in the restaurant was plastic. So it was a great trip all around!
In the midst of the birthday revelry, Liam has been making much developmental progress. He seems to be adding new "words" to his collection of sounds on a daily basis. Today, we definitely heard "ma-ma-ma" for the first time, and we think we also heard a "na-na-na." Before we left for our weekend, he had started pulling up to a kneeling position on anything that can bear his considerable weight and strength. This evening after we got home, he pulled up to a standing position using the Little People barn--not the sturdiest choice. I think he'll be doing circles around the train table anyday now. Watch out Evan!
