Columbus Day Weekend

It was nice to have a three-day weekend with the whole family. On Saturday, the Brothers YZ spent the day with daddy while Mommy, Aunt Meg, and Nana had a "play date" at the outlet mall. That was the explanation that I had to give Evan who was a little miffed that Aunt Meg and Nana weren't coming over to play with him. Of course, he still had a great time with Daddy and Liam especially on an outing to Mickle Donalds.

Our Sunday began at 5:00 A.M. with the Brothers YZ ready to go downstairs and to attack the toys. (We know lots of families deal with this kind of early rising on a daily basis, but the Brothers YZ usually like to start their days at a leisurely pace at a civilized hour.) Such an early rising did have its advantages, and Mommy and Daddy experienced something almost as rare as a lunar eclipse, i.e. the Brothers YZ taking a simultaneous nap. So the Brothers YZ were well rested for their company later that afternoon and were able to impress Aunt Carol and Uncle Jim with all of their tricks. And, it seems that Liam is good luck for New England sports teams just like his brothers Evan and Finbar before him.

A rainy Monday meant breakfast at the Kozy Kabin and a trip to the Train Store. Sadly, Evan's innocence about consumerism is coming to a close. Until very recently, we were able to go to Barnes and Noble to play with the train table and read books without any mention of purchasing anything. All purchases made by Mommy or Daddy were made on the sly. It was basically free entertainment if you did not count the trip to the cafe. Those days are over! Now Evan has started to ask us to buy certain engines or books or gives us gift ideas. At least, he is taking the rejection of his requests well for now. I'm not looking forward to those inevitable tantrums.
