Evan had his first experience with activism today when he participated in World Alzheimer's Day in Springfield, Massachusetts. He handed out clappers and kazoos to the champions who had gathered to recognize the impact of Alzheimer's disease on society and the need for increased funding for the search for a cure. No one turned him down! The emcee for the event was Carl Beane, The Voice of Fenway, who is a very friendly fellow. He immediately spotted Evan in his Boston Red Sox shirt and shook his hand and let Evan try on his Championship ring. As you can see in the picture, Mommy also had a chance to hold the ring.
Evan was such a good helper at World Alzheimer's Day that we stopped at Forest Park in Springfield before heading home to pick up Liam. The park was a gem! There are lots of bike paths, a rose garden, and a rose. On this trip, we only planned to hit the playground, but Evan quickly spotted a train that was giving rides around the park. How could I turn down his request to ride the train? We had a lovely, private ride about the park. As we pulled into the depot, Evan asked, "Is this the end of the journey?" It was the end of the train ride, but not the excitement. The conductor allowed Evan to sit in the driver's seat. What a day! Who knew Springfield, Massachusetts could be this much fun?
