The Razor

This year Evan's "big" birthday present was a Razor scooter. Many of his older friends already had one of these scooters which are incredibly narrow and fast with just two wheels. Evan had never had a beginner scooter with four wheels and a larger base so I wondered how quickly he would pick this up. The answer--Not long at all. As you can see in the video below, Evan is incredibly adept at gliding about in his Razor. It is amazing and frightening to see him zoom down Pioneer Road. (He just needs to get a bit better at using the brake instead of his foot to stop the thing before he ruins a pair of shoes or crashes into the brush pile at the end of the road.)
The only problem with the Razor, other than obvious safety fears, is its impact on Evan's bike riding. At the beginning of the summer, we removed the training wheels which weren't working very well. He pretty quickly picked up how to pedal and balance without assistance from Mommy or Daddy, but the stopping and starting were another matter. Now that he is so in love with his Razor, we are stalled in the bike riding department. Hopefully, next summer he'll just pick it up right away.
