The Great Cape Escape, Part Two

Day Four: Beaches, Bikes, and Mini-Golf

On Monday morning, we awoke to clearing skies and no rain. With iffy weather reports, we headed to the beach right after breakfast. We visited one of our favorite beaches in Brewster, Spruce Point. It is a beautiful and quiet beach that requires a short hike from the Brewster Historical Society.
In the afternoon, Evan went miniature golfing with Greg while Liam napped. It was his first time on the course. He didn't end up falling off any bridges or into any waterfalls so it was a success. Later while watching the US Open Play Off, he kept referring to the game as miniature golf and was very intrigued by the name "Tiger."
After dinner, we took the Brothers YZ to the Cape Cod Rail Trail where Evan rode his tricycle for more than a 1/2 mile. He has become very skilled at pedaling and is ready to progress to a two-wheel bicycle. It's a good thing his birthday is coming soon.

Day Five: Chatham and Wellfleet

Chatham is not only a posh town on the Cape, but it is also a treasure trove of toddler/preschooler fun. First, we hit the Railroad Museum which featured a restored caboose that Evan could explore. Then, we had to check out the fire truck next door and the playground across the street. Second, we visited the town pier to watch the fishing boats come in and unload their catch. At the pier, we had the unexpected excitement of seeing several harbor seals that were drawn in by the fishy smell. The afternoon was reserved for the water with another dip in the pool and trip to Duck Harbor Beach in Wellfleet. It was difficult to get Evan away from the pool with two young Russian housekeepers in bikinis sunbathing. He told Greg, "Let me look at the girls a little longer before I get in the minivan."

Day Six: Martha's Vineyard

On our way home, Greg and I decided to take the adventure to a whole new level as we journeyed on a bus and ferry to Martha's Vineyard for a couple of hours. Evan and Mommy rode the Flying Horses Carousel, and Mommy got a brass ring for a free ride. Evan and Liam enjoyed some riding toys in the arcade. We walked around the Methodist Camping Grounds to look at the colorful gingerbread houses. We weren't able to take the double stroller, and Evan did very well with all of the walking. On the opposite spectrum, Liam tolerated his confinement in the stroller very well. The Brothers YZ were a little antsy on the ferry ride back to the mainland, but everyone and everything stayed on board. Both boys were fast asleep before we got to the bridge.

As is often the case on our return trip from lovely vacations or daytrips, the boys awoke in sour moods before our arrival home. Liam was crying hysterically for the last fifteen minutes of the drive, and Evan was just plain grumpy. Evan told us, "I didn't want to go on vacation. I just wanted to stay in Holden." We didn't take it personally. It was a still a great trip even if Evan was faking his good time.

Found money (by Evan): $1.25 (One dollar bill at Dunkin donuts, quarter at pool)

Wow, Evan's not only shaping up to be more of ladies man than his Uncle ever was, but now he's challenging my change finding skills as well. We're now tied for paper money finds in 2008! I'm very impressed.

And, Mommy just found a dollar bill on her walk with Finbar. The McGs are ahead of the G's in paper money finds for 2008.
