Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend was a bit of a mixed bag for the Brothers YZ due to a nasty stomach virus, but mercifully quick, that hit Liam on Saturday morning and Evan on Sunday night. Once Liam was better and before Evan got sick, we made it to Maine to visit Nana and Grampa on their vacation. As soon as we got in the car for the trip, Evan took out his binoculars and announced, as he looked directly at our garage, "I can't see the mountains or the ocean yet."

We spent the afternoon at Drakes Island Beach where Greg and I received a refresher course on how best to handle trips to the beach in preparation for our own vacation to Cape Cod in a few weeks.

Lesson #1: No matter how cold the water temperature is, Evan will want to swim and should wear a bathing suit. Otherwise, he will use wet clothes as an excuse to skinny-dip, as he did on Sunday. (Even at home, Evan will take off his clothes if he gets the tiniest drop of water on himself.)

Lesson #2: Liam should have a pacifier that can be attached to his clothes to keep it free of the sand that we are trying to keep out of mouth.

Lesson #3: Mommy and Daddy need plenty of extra clothes. Even if we aren't planning on swimming in 55 degree water, we will end up soaking wet.

Before going home, we stopped at the Fisherman's Catch for some great fried seafood. The Brothers YZ charmed the other diners with their cuteness and good manners (this time), and Evan did a strange drawing of God as a dog.
Unfortunately, Evan had to miss Holden's Memorial Day parade in which his friend's father was marching. I did take Liam to the center of town to see the festivities. He was so excited that he kept shaking his Snack Trap of cheerios at the parade. A little Girl Scout gave him the flag that you can see him enthusiatically waving and then tossing into the street in the video below. Hopefully, his actions aren't a violation of the Patriots Act.
