Off to First Grade!

I owe several posts to loyal followers of The Brothers YZ including summer vacation to Storyland and Liam's first day of preschool, but unfortunately I left my USB cable in our condo and am awaiting its return. It did occur to me to use my other camera (and charge it) to take pictures of Evan's first day of school today so the posts will just be a little out of order.

Today was Evan's first day of first grade. To say that he was excited would be an understatement. We spent yesterday labeling his school supplies, doing a homework assignment, and packing his backpack. When it was all done, he went out on the porch to sit with his backpack and think about school.

The excitement continued to this morning. Because we missed the open house where he could see his new classroom, he allowed me to enter the school with him. (After today, he will probably insist that we part ways before we hit the school grounds.) His new teacher, Mrs. Duffy, was very friendly to students and parents alike. I had no idea who Mrs. Duffy was so it was nice to meet her face-to-face before school began and take a peek at the classroom. We were excited to find out that the teacher's aide, Mrs. Smith, would be working with Evan's new class. With 20 kids in the class, it will be nice to have more than one teacher.

Evan reported that the first day was "awesome!" Mrs. Duffy is "even a little bit nicer than Ms. Benoit." He liked that he could play with all of his first grade friends during recess. He thought that it was fun to "walk with marshmallows on my feet," which is Mrs. Duffy's way of saying to walk quietly.
