Return to Providence

Today the Brothers YZ had a Sunday adventure with Mommy and Daddy to Providence. We had told Evan about the plans on Saturday night, and he woke up raring to go. (For the first time this week, he left the house without a firefighter's hat. This time opting for the engineer's hat.) We had a lovely brunch at the Restaurant Oak, as the "Red Diner" was much too crowded at 11:00 AM. Then, we met our good friend, Barbara, at Lippett Park.

It was getting a bit cold outside so we headed over to the Providence Children's Museum where we had never visited when we were Rhode Island residents. Barbara had a free membership, but the museum would have been well worth the price of admission. On the first floor, there was a water room, toothbrushing exhibit, and animal shelter.

The second floor was even better with a construction site that allowed preschoolers to "use" a crane, tug boat, and dump truck while wearing the all-important hard hat and safety vest. There were also smaller rooms that allowed preschoolers to go back in time and explore a two-level pirate ship, go grocery shopping in the 1960s, etc. Evan reported that the pirate ship was his favorite, and he spent about 45 minutes preparing Barbara meals in the lower deck and resting on the bunks. There was even plenty for Liam to explore including soft blocks and a padded pool with balls and ramps and without water. Liam impressed Barbara with the ease with which he can pull to a stand and his newly acquired skill of cruising.

The boys played hard for about two hours, and both slept the entire trip home. We always love returning to Providence for a visit, and now we have yet another excuse to make the trip.
