On the first day, we went to a Balloon Festival at the University of Rhode Island. Greg saw the event in Yankee Magazine's calendar, and it did not disappoint. The hot air balloons weren't being inflated until around 8 PM for a balloon glow and fireworks show so we had time to enjoy the moon bounces, train ride, rock wall climb, carnival rides, and fire trucks.
It was beautiful to see the half dozen balloons amid the sunset as other people were spending $15 each to take a ride up and down. Then, at dusk we watched a fabulous fireworks show. The boys loved it.Here's a photo that Evan took at the festival. Note the diagnonal shot.
The next day we took the ferry to Block Island to visit "the sea" as Liam says. It was a cloudy day, but rain showers held off. It was still killer hot and humid, and the sea was very refreshing. The ferry ride took about 45 minutes, and there was a beach about 1/2 mile from the dock. That first beach was aptly named "Kids' Beach," and the surf was very gentle. After a few hours of playing in the sand and water, we walked back into town to have pizza on an outdoor patio and then to visit a free hobby farm with yaks, water buffalo, emus, alpacas, donkeys, and more. 
Before getting back on the ferry, we stopped at a beach on the other side of the ferry dock that was not as kid-friendly. The surf was rough, and it fronted a bar. Still, the water was beautiful, and the boys enjoyed it.
The next day we thought we might go to another beach before heading home, but the weather was not cooperating. So instead we headed to Patriots Place in Foxboro to see the Bass Pro Shops and Cars 2. Despite getting this close to a taxidermied moose, Evan still wants to see a live moose in Maine.
