Last weekend we kicked off the Christmas season in New England with a trip to Target to get portraits of the Brothers YZ. We didn't have high hopes for the pictures. Liam, while very eager to smile, always wants to be on the move, and Evan still has a tendency toward cheesy grins with his eyes squeezed shut. Making our odds for good pictures worse was an 8:30 AM appointment time. (Evan was whining about wanting to go back to bed for the entire trip to Target.) But, as you can see from these pictures, we got very lucky with an enthusiastic and skilled photographer who was worked quickly to capture Liam and creatively to get Evan to cooperate. We had trouble choosing our portraits and will almost certainly be convinced to buy more when we pick up the pictures this week. Of course, this blogspot is spoiling some of the Christmas surprise for the fans of the Brothers YZ, but I couldn't wait to share the pictures.
This week we started our Christmas shopping. On Friday, Liam showed his stamina as he joined Mommy and Nana on a day long shopping excursion. Evan spent the day with Grampa doing manly errands and going to the train store. He turned down a lunch at MickleDonalds telling Grampa that he wanted to go to the "cafe" at Barnes and Noble instead. He wore his cowboy hat and Phoenix Coyotes tracksuit for his adventure and insisted that Grampa wear his cowboy hat once they got home.
This weekend our holiday festivities were slowed down by an impending ice storm and Liam's continuing upper respiratory troubles. We had to reschedule a much anticipated visit from Barbara, and we were not able to take new pictures for our Christmas cards. We did get our Christmas tree, and Evan had a great time trimming the tree. He especially enjoyed unwrapping all of the ornaments from the tissue paper and kept thanking Mommy for all of the nice presents. When I told him that the last step to tree trimming was watering the tree, he ran upstairs to get his bathtime watering can for the job. Then, he insisted that the tree was growing taller with each drink of water.
Hopefully, Liam and the weather forecast will be better next weekend, because we have some big holiday excitement planned--The Polar Express at the Ecotarium. We are keeping it a surprise for Evan. It should be wonderful!

Those pictures are great. Liam looks so much like his Grampy in them!
