We usually take an extra long weekend over February break, but with our big California vacation coming up in April, we're saving our money. Still, the boys and their parents needed a little getaway so we headed to Connecticut for an overnight. Cody had his own vacation at Nana and Grampa's house.
On our way to our hotel in Groton, we stopped at Gillette Castle State Park which was amazing as you can see. We'll have to go back with Cody who would have loved the trails and when the castle is open for tours.

Evan took some time to sketch and birdwatch. We spotted two Golden eagles soaring overhead and a Great Blue Heron on the drive to the park.

The boys enjoyed the stay in the hotel as usual. The pool was exceptionally warm, and even Mommy got in.

The next morning we went to the Mystic Aquarium. We had taken Evan there as an infant, and he kept insisting that he remembered parts of it. The outdoor Beluga whale exhibit is awesome! The indoor exhibits are also amazing. It was crowded beyond belief, but fortunately and unusually, this is resulted in clinging behavior from Liam.

After the aquarium, we stopped at Mystic Pizza for lunch. I know it's touristy, but the restaurant is very cute and the pizza is delicious. I always did like the movie! Our guest from Pennsylvania, Cupcake, was glad that we made the stop.
(Cupcake belongs to the daughter of one of my college friends, and she is off exploring the United States for a few months ala Flat Stanley.)

A out of place, but cool, video of the jellyfish at the Mystic Aquarium.
