On Friday, we broke Evan out school before lunch and hit the road for Cape Cod. Greg snagged us a deluxe suite at the Sandwich Lodge and Resort. With a saltwater pool, hot tub, great pub next door, and two separate rooms, it was a real find. As usual with Expedia.com, the room did not come with real windows.
On Saturday, we had a lazy morning at the pool and free continental breakfast. Then we got on the road. Our ultimate destination was Provincetown for a sunset cruise that we had booked for our first vacation to the Cape with a Groupon and was cancelled due to Hurricane Irene.
On the way, we stopped at the Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary for a hike. It was a really beautiful spot with lots of short and interesting hikes perfect for small people. We walked down a boardwalk to the shore, saw a vernal pool, and searched the butterfly mosaic. Despite Liam's frequent requests to be carried, we had a nice time.
Our next stop was Orleans for lunch and a visit to the Red Balloon Toy Store to spend some of Grammy and Grampy's winnings from a recent Vegas trip. The boys each chose some knight Playmobil sets. Thank you Grammy and Grampy.
Good behavior seemed to be coming to an end as we neared Provincetown for sunset cruise for adults. (Our original Groupon was for Critter Cruise, no longer available in October.) We bought some baby bottle pops to keep them occupied and sat by the motor to drown out their noise.
Entertainment, soda, and the below snack tray was included.
They did very well on the cruise earning the compliments of many. I think their favorite part of the cruise was when the singer/guitar player sang "Loyla," which they thought was the Weird Al spoof "Yoda." Liam remarked, "I don't think she knows how to say Dagobah." Star Wars fans will know what I'm talking about.
The weather could have been more perfect for the sunset.
Sunday held more excitement, as we headed to Carver for the King Richard's Renaissance Fair. It was more impressive than I imagined with an entire Medieval Village in the forest with 6 or 7 stages of entertainment.
Much of the entertainment was PG-13, and lewd behavior was aplenty. The boys enjoyed the tiger show and jousting, and the parents enjoyed the comedy of "Juggle This."
As we expected, the Faire was crazy expensive. I was dying to try a huge turkey leg, but I couldn't shell out the $8. We did splurge on ice cream cones for the boys and let them each choose a game or ride.

Columbus Day itself was a much calmer, but still lovely, day. We went for a hike up Brown Hill at Wachusett Meadow. Fortunately, Liam had his hiking legs with him and made it to the summitt on his own.
It was warm so Evan took his shirt off on the hike. Surprisingly, Liam chose to stay fully clothed.
The views were spectacular from both the summitt of Brown Hill and of the meadows.
