Campin' in the Rain

This weekend we had our first campover of the scout year at Treasure Valley. The weather didn't cooperate with a constant rain or heavy mist throughout the day and night, but fortunately all of the scouts and parents packed their scout spirit and a smile. With the extra effort of the leaders, all events were able to happen including the bouldering wall.
I was able to delegate the cooking responsibilities to my two assistant leaders, Dan and Chris, who set up an elaborate cooking station in which the boys made their own pizzas and brownies in a dutch oven. (They even took care of their leader by bringing the coffee percolator and half & half to warm up the moms after a day doing activities in the rain. The only thing that would have been better was a beer which is outlawed at scout activities.)

Throughout the day, the boys traveled to various stations to do the bouldering wall, set a campfire, learn about fire prevention, hike, and build and set off stomp rockets. Evan loved the stomp rockets where his rocket went the farthest of the day.

We did decide to brave the night in our tent where we stayed toasty warm in our scarves, fleece jackets, and wool hats. The rain fly kept out the water. Neighbors with much more camping experience lent me their sleeping bags and mats which helped keep us comfortable despite the sloping ground.

All around we had a great time although I'm not quite ready to trade a hotel room for the campground on my own vacation.
