Trip Down Memory Lane, Part I

After a bit of a delay, we headed off on our winter mini-break on Monday afternoon. Our destination--the Upper Valley, or White River Junction, VT and Hanover, NH. Despite the boys being a bit under the weather with Evan's getting over a stomach bug and Liam's having a bad cold, we had a great time!

We were very pleased with our hotel accommodations at Comfort Inn in White River Junction where our suite actually afforded the parents some reading time after the kids' bedtime. Liam was a bit disappointed not to find Grampy at the hotel. Apparently, the hotel reminded him of the hotels where we saw Grampy over the summer, and he could not understand why Grampy didn't have a room there too.

The hotel did have an indoor pool, but in keeping with a recent trend, the water did not seem to be heated which didn't stop the Brothers YZ from having fun. Our first trip to the pool was fraught with some drama when Evan vomitted all over the poolside at the end of our time there. Fortunately, that was the last of the stomach bug, and we weren't banned from the pool.

On Tuesday, we made a return trip to the Montshire Museum. This time Liam was able old enough to enjoy the museum which has the best hands-on science exhibits we've ever seen. Below you can see Evan looking at an aquarium that is inside a dark tunnel.

All of the McGurin boys enjoyed the bubble area.

Liam was fascinated by the fog machine.

The rest of our day was devoted to a trip back into my childhood in Hanover and West Lebanon. We had brunch at Lou's Restaurant. Evan and I spent an hour playing board games at the Howe Public Library--where Uncle Brian and I enjoyed many a puppet show and story hour--while Greg drove Liam around for a nap.

Then, we drove by the Dartmouth graduate student housing, aka Sachem Village, where you could see both the original housing and the upgraded housing. No need to show a picture of the original housing, as that has been well documented and experienced by many blog followers. But, here is what they built where they razed most of the original housing.

Then, it was off to the first house that my parents purchased, 4 Cambridge Place, with money they saved while my father was a full-time student with two young kids (amazing!).

What trip down Memory Lane to Hanover would be complete without a trip to Jesse's Steakhouse for dinner.
