The McGurin household is very excited about the election results. Yesterday we walked to the polls with the Brothers YZ. Evan was very interested in the voting process, and he studied my ballot closely and put Greg's ballot into the machine. Preschool focused on the election for a day. Evan took second place in a contest to draw a donkey and elephant from a political picture. (Mr. Mike thought that Evan should have won with his superior drawing skills and questioned the count. Evan did not demand a recount.) Evan also had a chance to vote in a mock election. He was impressed that the teachers set up voting booths to give him "privis," but he noted that the ballots were not right. He had to put an "X" by the candidate of his choice (Obama, of course), instead of filling in an oval with a black pen like at the real polls. He assured me that he knew who he was voting for because Obama starts with an "O." As it turned out, the start of the Obama tide of votes was at Child Works. Evan is still pumped about the election today and has been shouting out a cheer that I taught him yesterday, "Obama for your mama!," throughout the day. And, this mama is a happy one.
